Mr Majestic

This song is what got me into drum and bass. One of my best friends who was already very much into dnb sent me this song knowing I have always loved reggae. I remember I got goosebumps when I listened to it for the first time. I was totally unaware of the fact that drum and bass has its roots in reggae. I started digging and totally fell in love with the genre and jungle specifically. Listening to this track gives me a very comforting feeling knowing that a sound which I am dear to is being amplified and preserved. And it brings me back to the comforting feeling I had when I heard this song and recognized that iconic trumpet hook.

Control Tower

Because I rolled into drum and bass because of its roots, I am always looking for tracks that still retain that reggae sound. My favourite way this track does that is in the skank chords in the intro and ending the song with a steppa beat that feels so bouncy even at this high of a tempo.

Get Free

Bakey is my favourite artist that is making contemporary sound system culture inspired dance music. His music (and the album this song is from specifically) is a tribute to the same thing I am inspired by most. At the same time the synth and flute sounds make this song feel nostalgic for a totally different reason.

Hard Times

This song resonates with me because of the repeating vocal sample. The sample is from a song with the same name by Pablo Gad. Even though they share the same name, the dnb version does not convey the same message of struggle. Instead, this song inspires me to keep a young spirit and keep doing the same things i have always loved but be more mindful about it. The fact that the sample keeps repeating throughout the song makes it almost feel like a mantra. Paired together with a fast tempo and hypnotic reese bass, this is a track you can get really lost in and feels like a perfect closing song to a set.
