Amsterdam-based DJ team STUPID CREW consists of Geert and Olaf, who believe bass music is the one thing holding the world together. The two gentlemen have been making and breaking music together for what feels like centuries. They electrify stages with butchered beats and bass so heavy it alters your dental records. Each set is packed with unexpected junctions and plot twists, with brutal bass genres delivering gut punches around every corner. The duo runs a bespoke, hidden amateur venue called STUPID, arguably home to the best sound system in Amsterdam. They throw parties that are 100% money-free, some serious hippie shit. Their following is almost cult-like, yet unmistakably genuine: loyal to the core, slightly unhinged, and quietly taking all of this far too seriously. A true love affair.
Our list
- G Jones & Eprom — The Real — The real issue is that G Jones and Eprom are masters of all bass music genres. Including whatever this is.
- Sully — Model Collapse — A hypnotic, phase-shifting melody rooted in silly techno. It coils and slithers like a snake drunk on mezcal.
- S.Murk — Comin' Back — Just when you regret buying tickets to the wrong rave, this one pulls you right back in. So many detours in a single tune that refuses to be categorised!
- Yung.Raj — Wasteland Dream — We love the bounce. And the layer of mouth-y sounds and clicks in the percussion. It's how a mouth sounds the split second before a real violent cough.
- Squarepusher — Venus No.17 Acid Mix — Insane production. We’d tell our kids to stay away at all costs. Exposure may cause sudden insanity.
- Yautja — Conrad Subs — Some people actually know what a Yautja is. We just know it should be played in dark rooms on massive sound systems.
- Dub Phizix & Skeptical — Rags — The stop-n-go methodology that DJ Premier developed in hiphop is reflected here. Maybe that's complete horseshit, but we like to think it's true. If you disagree, consider you may be wrong, muhfugga.
- Yaano & latesleeper — Plimbo — We cherish our connection to the Bristol music scene, including our friends from Overview Music. Who also happened to release this lovely piece of insanity.
- Samurai Breaks — Skippy — This track sounds like a sand flea on ketamine, clutching an AK-47 and firing pulverised breakbeats straight down our Eustachian tube. Hurts, but in a good way.
- Zoro, Jappa & Bish — LSD — This track commands so many wheel-ups, we've never played it to the end.
